If severe dental problems are causing you discomfort, you may be a good candidate for a full mouth reconstruction. Full mouth reconstruction or rehabilitation can restore all your teeth to rebuild a natural-looking smile.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

If you have lost some or all your teeth due to tooth decay or trauma, injured or fractured teeth, severely worn teeth, or ongoing complaints of pain and swelling and/or bleeding from your jaw and its positioning, full mouth reconstruction can be what your teeth and jaw need.

Building Smiles Dental Clinic provides cosmetic dentistry on a bedrock of procedures to perform a full mouth reconstruction. We offer our patients faster treatment with fewer professionals involved in one location.

We have a professional team of qualified specialists ready to perform all aspects of full mouth reconstruction with appropriate appliances to properly position your jaw, and restore your smile.

Following the repositioning technique, your teeth may need to be reshaped, or realigned. At this stage, we assess each tooth for a dental crown, or veneer, or a need to raise or lower the jaw in position to bring you comfort and natural function.

Other aspects of full mouth reconstruction that may not involve the whole mouth include tooth crowning, bridge lengthening, contouring of the gum tissue, reduction of your natural tooth structure, replacing dental crowns, dental bridges, or other ceramic restorations, dental implant placement, braces, or bone and soft tissue grafting.

Therefore, irrespective of how advanced your dental needs may be, our staff is always ready to help you return to good health and comfort, and all is carried out in one location.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers correct tooth imperfections such as gaps, chips, stains, or misshapen teeth and to help you to achieve a more confident, beautiful smile. Veneers mimic natural in appearance, and are perfect for making minor adjustments to the look and feel of the patient's smile. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth.

Veneers customized to individual patients require a high degree of technical skill and attention to cosmetic detail, and we are trained to manage these cases. We design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of the patient’s smile.

Commonly, the doctor makes a minimal preparation of the tooth to achieve the desired esthetic result. Impressions are taken to produce unique model of your teeth. The dentist sends the model the dental laboratory technician to create your veneers, or we may do it in the surgery with the Cerec machine if you wish. The dentist then bonds the veneer to the patient's teeth.

When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options. However, we suggest that you should avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco to maintain the beauty of your new smile.

Inlays and Onlays

When more than half of the tooth’s biting surface is damaged a dentist will often use an inlay or onlay to restore the tooth back to function.

What are inlays and onlays?

Inlays and onlays can be made of porcelain, gold, or composite resin.

These pieces are cemented or bonded to the damaged but cleaned area of the tooth. We use inlays within the tips of tooth cusps. It supports the tooth structure and function form inside the tooth. In this sense, they look more like regular fillings, but are tougher, and require construction outside of the mouth.

An onlay is a more substantial reconstruction, similar to the inlay but they cover out over one or more cusps of the tooth. Traditionally, gold has been the material used for inlays and onlays. In recent years, however, porcelain has become increasingly popular due to its strength, natural tooth matching color, and chair-side fabrication during the single appointment.

How are inlays and onlays applied?

Traditionally, inlays and onlays require two appointments to complete the procedure. During the first visit, the filling being replaced or the damaged or decaying area of the tooth is removed, and the tooth is prepared for the inlay or onlay. To ensure proper fit and bite, an impression of the tooth is made by the dentist, and sent to a lab for fabrication. The dentist will then apply a temporary sealant on the tooth and schedule the next appointment.

At the second appointment, the temporary filling is removed. The dentist will ensure that the inlay or onlay fits correctly. If the fit is satisfactory, the inlay or onlay will be bonded to the tooth with a strong resin, and polished to a smooth finish.

In modern times, these procedures are completed inside the clinic as the patient waits for the machine to manufacture the inlay or only. Building Smiles Dental Clinic uses the modern Cerec systems to accomplish this task during the same one-hour clinical visit, with the patient participating directly in the procedures. No temporary or intermediate fillings are involved in the process.

Considerations for inlays and onlays

Traditional fillings reduce the strength of a natural tooth by up to 50 percent. As an alternative, inlays and onlays, which are bonded directly onto the tooth using special high-strength resins, actually increase the strength of a tooth by up to 75 percent. As a result, they routinely last from 10 to 30 years. In some cases, where the damage to the tooth is not extensive enough to merit an entire crown, onlays provide a reliable alternative.
